DRIVER CPC - OVERVIEW
If you have any questions about how the Driver Certificate of Professional Competency legislation will affect you or your drivers, please contact our Transport Training Department who will be only to happy to help you.

From September 2008 for PCV drivers, and September 2009 for LGV drivers, legislation came into force that will affect every professional driver.

From this time, each driver will have to complete 35 hours of training within a 5 year period in order to continue to perform their driving role.

However, most drivers are unsure how this legislation will affect them, and what they will have to do in order to complete the Driver CPC.

If you have passed your licence before Sept 2009, you will receive 5 years "grandfather" rights from the date of introduction of the legislation. By Sept 2014 however, you must have completed your 35 hours of courses that makes up the Driver CPC Periodic Training. Professional drivers who have not completed their course before this time will be not be eligible to continue driving and will be committing an offence by not holding their CPC.

The 35 hours will be made up of 5 modules, each 7 hours in length and will be aimed at offering training that is relevant to Drivers as they continue their role. Drivers will have the option of how they complete their course, and will be able to choose an individual course at a time which is convenient to them. However, every course undertaken must be completed within a 24 hour timescale from the start of the course in order to complete that section.

The Driver CPC will also effect any new drivers who take their test after September 2009. In order to drive commercially, new drivers must sit and pass the Initial Driver CPC, which consists of a theory case studies test and a practical test also. Once these test have been completed, they will then have 5 years to complete their 35hours of periodic training. Contact us for more information.
